Medieval Daggers Have Been Cherished by Collectors for Centuries
Medieval Daggers Make Great Collectibles

Medieval daggers have impressed people for centuries, and continue to captivate people even to this day. While they are no longer favored for combat, they still live on in collections. Tastes among individuals vary widely - though this is no obstacle to medieval daggers since there is an incredible selection of them. Another advantage of these weapons is that there are many features which make them great for collections. In todays day and age, daggers are just as strong and sharp as they once were in medieval times, however, they should be tested before trying to use them.

Medieval weapons were primarily characterized by blades, for example, medieval daggers and swords.. Types of these weapons range widely, and therefore the weapons are perfect for displaying. Popular types of medieval daggers, swords and knives include claymores, katana, cutlass, short sword, katar, machete and Scottish dirk. As well, other types of medieval weapons exist and they are blunt weapons, ranged weapons and polearms or spears. Weapons that are blunt are certainly important, because they encompass many common weapons such as war hammers, maces, clubs, and battleaxes. Bows, crossbows, and longbows were also used in medieval times; they are referred to as ranged weapons. Spear type weapons called polearms were also available during medieval times.

Starting a colleciton of medieval daggers is a wonderful experience. You can try to collect many different daggers, focus on obtaining historical replicas, or attempt to collect other types of weapons entirely. Historical replicas of medieval daggers are very simple to find, as therer have been a significant amount of daggers that have been found and remade. Ie., the Scottish military basket hilt sword is available, the claymore used by William Wallace, a.k.a. Braveheart or the English forces' battle axes.

Reenactments of great battles, as well as practicing, are also possible with medieval daggers, however the weapons must be checked to see if they meet a few requirements. Battle readiness and functionality are key, so blades cannot be created using stainless steel and utilization of clay in the forging methods is a must. Finally, a grip needs to chosen to make sure that the medieval daggers have the right balance, and their blades are sharpened.
